The mission of the Register of Deeds, as outlined on their website, is to be the legal custodian of Durham County with jurisdiction over all land titles and land transactions. Beyond that, it also is in charge of administering other miscellaneous documents like birth, death, and marriage certificates.

She was appointed the Register of Deeds for Durham County in 2016 and has been employed in the Durham County Register of Deeds office since 1988!

Bio: 

Sharon Davis was born in Cleveland, NC and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and earned her Juris Doctorate degree from NCCU School of Law. Davis has spent the last 30 years of her life as a resident of Durham. She was appointed the Register of Deeds for Durham County in 2016 and has been employed in the Durham County Register of Deeds office since 1988. Davis was one of the association’s first recipients of the Charles Moore Award for her “superior dedication to the pursuit of professional knowledge in carrying out the responsibilities of the office of the Register of Deeds.”

 

Davis was appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to serve on the NC State Historical Advisory Board (SHRAB) and by the Secretary of State Elaine Marshall to serve on the Land Records Management Advisory Board Committee. She also serves as the Second Vice President of the International Association of Government Officials.
